Header Tank Cleaning

Recommended Posts

Anyone got any good ways of cleaning the inside of a header tank?

Took mine off whilst sorting out my water leak and it's full of brown gunk. Any ideas?

get a bottle of white vinegar, plug up the expansion hose connector, fill with vinegar, shake about a bit, let it sit on one side for a few hours, then shake it and sit it on the other side for a few hours, rinse out.

I left mine overnight too.

virtually all the crud came out of mine and I can see the coolant again, yey!

Other option is take the header tank off the car, put a bit of water in the botto madn a hand full of gravel, swirl around liberally for a few mins , empty, flush and refit clean header....

Yeah not expensive but vineger / boiling water does a good job and then stick it in the dishwasher...

If it's brown / yellow colour tho just replace it...

Hmmm, might do this to mine. A rinse with a bottle of vinegar sounds like a very cheap mod to brighten up the engine bay! :)

Wow, something cheap on a Rado haha! A new cap it is then. Will get rid of the mawl (spelling) grip marks sustained from trying to release the cap
