Hello Everyone! and some engine questions!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new to the Corrado world - infact i am new to the VW world! I've had my corrado 2 weeks and i LOVE it, last car was an MR2 turbo and that was just stupid!

Ok here goes I have a 2.016V K reg corrado and the engine is a little ropey and smokey! So i would like to source a second hand unit to rebuild in my spare time and fit it in the summer - just a few questions.

1. What other VW cars will i find the 2.016V unit in?

2. Any suggestions where i can source one?

3. How much do they go for?

4. Anything to be wary of?

5. Any other points to consider?

Many thanks

Daf

the Corrado's 2.0 16v IIRC is found also in the Passat 2.0 16v of similar vintage as well as in some Audi 80's(possibly 100's too)...........its not the same engine as found in the mk3 Golf GTI 16v however

might be better just to rebuild your existing one if its just needing a top-end

Ah so it's not the same as the golf, thats useful to know. I'd rather rebuild the whole thing as it's done 150K+ so it would benefit from a re-bore, rings etc etc!

Trouble is i work six days and need the car every day! Hence looking for another engine.

How do identify if its the same engine? I.e. if i go to a breakers and they have an audi are there some engine codes that will match up with mine?

(just a quick ad on - is this ebay item the same engine??? 140110974937)
