dirtytorque 0 Posted May 20, 2007 Engine still running like s*^te (see other thread) I am also hearing an intermittent clatter. The engine seems to run smoother in the instances when it stops clattering. I took the drive belt cover off and I am pretty sure I saw some smoke coming from the drive belt tensioner. Warn bearings maybe... See picture ,the gap around the middle part of the tensioner seems un-even? I guess I should change this out?!?? I can't be sure but the noise I was hearing was from this vicinity. Also there seems to be an awful lot of play on this unit. The bolt is fastened to 45nm but the external part of the unit is wobbly.
Supercharged 2 Posted May 20, 2007 Errr yeah - DON'T drive it.... Buy a genuine tensioner and a new nut and stud. Check the belt out - if it's gone shiney then it's been wearing against the resistance of the tensioner - you'll need to do the belt too... I reckon you've been very lucky to spot that - another few miles and you'd need a new engine!
dirtytorque 0 Posted May 20, 2007 I started it up ;started to reverse out and thought "NAaah that don't sound rite!!!!!" The belts so shiny i can see my face in it. :?

Henny 0 Posted May 23, 2007 the bearings in that tensioner have collapsed... You're right that it shouldn't look like that.... :? New belt and tensioner required - nut and stud are also worth swapping at the same time... 8)
Supercharged 2 Posted May 23, 2007 Repair Kit part number is 056 198 119 and will be much cheaper than buying belt and tensioner seperatly.
