TexasCorradoVR6 0 Posted November 5, 2003 The Long Beaches being the factory 17" wheels for the Jetta (01 and up i think) The Jettas run on 215tires, but Rados run on 205s? Can you fit them on Corrados, or has anyone tryed? thanks Will
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 5, 2003 If the rim section is 6.5 to 7", then you can use 205 section but if the rim section is 7.5, then a 215 section tyre is more suitable. I prefer the Santa Monicas myself and they are 7" wide, so I would imagine the Longbeachers are too. Just depends if you buy replicas or originals. Chris VR6nos 0 Posted November 5, 2003 not good info in my opinion Kev. i have 7.5J wide rims and 215's were no good as they catch the arches badly but the 205's i replaced them with are fine and both aspect ratios were the same, 40series on 17's Only a view on my situation and others may differ, however, i feel your sweeping statement is too generalized if you are offering advise Kev! VR6 0 Posted November 5, 2003 I suppose it depends on the drop more than anything Chris. I would assume Kev is assuming a standard ride height. Good to hear lots of opinions though.
TexasCorradoVR6 0 Posted November 5, 2003 No- fitting the longbeaches on would be with a 1" drop. Eibachs, whatever. So would the 205's still fit the longbeaches with the drop? Will thanks for all the advice
dubster82 0 Posted November 5, 2003 Chris VR6nos, He probably also meant for comfort (215's will have a thicker sidewall) and better rim protection. Personally, i used to run 215's. thought they were ok til i went to 205's. I'll never go back.
dubster82 0 Posted November 5, 2003 TexasCorradoVR6, Stick some 205 side tires on them then slap em on your ride
Chris VR6nos 0 Posted November 5, 2003 I think the general consensus of opinion is for the 205's! Long live 205's! Viva la 205! Donde esta la callie de las pharmacias? Una poco Espaniol chicos Chris
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 5, 2003 What I was getting at is the 205 tyre can be used on a broad range of rim widths, including the 7.5. But using a 205 on a 7.5" width rim looks a little stretched in my opinion. Hence suggesting a 215 for that size rim. Kev
Leavon 0 Posted November 6, 2003 I run 215/40/17 on 7.5J rim, lowered 30mm with no problems. On full lock when parking there is a tiny bit of rubbing on the plastic inners but it's negligible. I agree that 205s look too stretched and expose too much rim on a 7.5J. They're prone to kerbing enough as it is.
TexasCorradoVR6 0 Posted November 6, 2003 As soon as i get my hands on a set and tyres, i'll put my pics up!! :D I think i'll go with the 205's! Will
