STORM 2 0 Posted August 17, 2007 Hi all I have a front offside seized caliper which I'm trying to take off and service. I have both the caliper carrier and caliper bolts off but can't get the caliper off as the pads are stuck tight to the disc. I can't even lever something between the pad and disc to try and get the piston back as the pads and discs are quite new (Brembo  ) Any tips gratefully received!! Goldie 2 Posted August 17, 2007 Id try a rubber or leather mallet and try and caliper to slide off the disc and see where you go from there..
Critical_Mass 10 Posted August 17, 2007 A metal lump hammer could even be used. Ive been using them for years and never damaged anything. Just careful you only hit the caliper.
STORM 2 0 Posted August 17, 2007 cheers guys - managed to get it off with a wooden mallet. The piston is badly corroded on its outer rim surface - I wire brushed as much off as I could. I tried to get the rubber seal out without much success so have just put everything back together ---just have to wait until it all seizes up again :(
Critical_Mass 10 Posted August 17, 2007 I think a couple of front calipers from GSF are around 65 each. May be worth replacing them, especially when its the front brakes.
dr_mat 0 Posted August 18, 2007 Front calipers are less than that. VW will sell you refurbed parts for about £35+VAT per side.
