daniboy1_2_3 0 Posted October 1, 2007 Hello there, i am going to see a 1992 H plate corrado on wednesday. Been told that it has full VW service history up until around 2002. Its been sorned but has MOT until may next year. It has the G60 engine, cloth interior, done around 135,000 miles. Paintwork is in need of attention but its solid with no rust, and the interior is good. Just wondering what i should be looking out for as i dont know much about these cars. Also what sort of ball park price would someone put on this? I know its hard to say buy just a rough idea. The car is green, has electric sun and wind, spoiler electric etc. Any advice on what to look out for appreciated.
junkie 0 Posted October 2, 2007 There is a buying guide in the knowledge base. Hard to say on a price for that 1 but if ok condition i would say 2-3k. Prices are low so def a buyers market at the minute. Make sure the electrics work, mainly spoiler comes up at 45mph and goes back down around 10mph. Sunroof tilts and slides, alot when broke only tilt and not slide, usually puts scratches in the roof. When the charger was last rebuilt, VW recommend 60k rebuilds but if its running a 68mm pulley then 30-40k ish, bargain down by £300-500 for a rebuild if it needs doing and then get it done straight away. There will be rust under the bonnet usually front cross member area, poss inner wing surface rust.
daniboy1_2_3 0 Posted October 3, 2007 Thanks, i have had a good look through the buyers guide so am well armed. Just unsure about engine varients. Are there different varients of the G60? I`m sure a while back someone mentioned a couple of engine codes to me? I wouldent want to buy this to find i had the older less powerfull version of the G60 or anything? Sonicriot13 0 Posted October 3, 2007 The way I understand it they are all PG engines. They did toy with a 16valve G60 engine but it never made it into mass production in the corrado. They only put it in a few corrados (like six or something) and the G60 limited Golf. Think that's right. Que lots of people proving me wrong.... :)
daniboy1_2_3 0 Posted October 3, 2007 Well i bought it. The interior is immaculate, all electrics and MFA in perfect working order. Sunroof works spot on. Tyres and exhaust good (slight blow). Few minor dents and the guy i bought it off had unfortunately tried to `touch up` areas of paintwork which has spoilt it in places. Some rust on n/s arch and sill but looks treatable. Other thing is charger has not been rebuilt and it has done 134,000 miles!. I took it steady back but opened it up a few times and it still performs well and i can hear it working so i`m hopeing a rebuild will be all it needs. BBS wheels are immaculate, inner wings front and rear solid and underneath looks good. Just need to service engine and charger then i`ll probably get a bit of paint on it. Just hope the charger is fixable, but like i said it seems to boost fine so cant be that bad surely?. Is it possible to buy a service kit for the charger as i would like to do this myself provided any specialist tools required for the job are available as well as the kit. I`m also going to do the cam belt and service the engine. Is there anything else worthwhile doing while at it? Cheers.

I'd try and keep the revs down low until that's sorted. There's some really good info on charger maintenance here as well as other G60 related gubbins: http://www.matey-matey.com/g60-guide.shtml
