The problem you have is very, very common, but I'm afraid it can be caused by any number of things e.g. ISV, MAF sensor, coilpack, plugs/leads, relays, throttle body, throttle cable, throttle damper position etc. Most likely causes are ISV and MAF. You can remove the ISV and give it a good clean and lube. Best thing is to do a search as it's been discussed soooo many times! Also, I wouldn't take it to VW!
