just_say_meth 0 Posted November 15, 2007 Alright Folks, need some advice I've removed the rear axle and i'm just wondering if there is any tried and tested techniques to removing the bushes? Without VW special tool 3111!! Not in a rush as the G is off the road for the winter, but i do have a huge list of work to do  Or is it easier just to take the axle down to a garage and get them to remove them? TIA Andy
Supercharged 2 Posted November 15, 2007 Electric drill or saw to cut the inner rubber out then a hacksaw to cut thru the outer shell that will be rust-welded to the beam... you will need new ones pressing in unless you use polly
Jim 2 Posted November 15, 2007 Yep. That worked well for me. We drilled out the totally dried up zombied rubber from the bush just leaving the metal collar then carefully hacksawed through it. When we cut through to the beam, it destroyed the structural strength of the collar meaning it could be 'persuaded' out without too much effort :)
