which socket to get spark plugs out of a KR?

Recommended Posts

Hi team,

I completely forgot that KR heads have tapered / narrowing spark plug holes on them.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a place where I can get this socket from? I used to have one, but I don't think I have it anymore...

1/2" or 3/8" drive absolutely fine.

Cheers!

Standard Halfords ones are fine (14mm) but you must use a locking extension bar - they do a Sparkplug service kit for about £20 which includes these, a ratchet and wire brush etc

It's one where you need to push a button to release the socket (unlike a wobble extension) so you can't leave the socket stuck in the cyl head...

that thing looks amazing, will deffo pick one of those up. Cheers!

I have 3 different lengths of locking extension in 3/8ths drive, so if you have a 14mm socket, we're all set for Saturday...

This is the one I use:

Clicky

No chance of it getting stuck down in the head.

Hey dec,

are you sure this is the right one, 14mm?

I picked one up today but 14mm looks tiny small.

Yeah, just ask in Halfarts to make sure you get the right size!

Bought it already mate, and it didn't fit :(

The inner partt of it doesn't clear the cream ceramic core of the spark plug.

Ended up buying a long "Spark plug" 14mm socket which worked a treat.

Cheers for the help though!

Yes, the magnetic insert in the end was fouling on the upper part of the sparkplug, so that it wouldn't fit completely inside and hence the drive faces wouldn't reach the hexagonal 'nut' at the base of the spark plug :x
