Scott 0 Posted February 21, 2003 I'd say if tis all done properly then £300 would be a fair price. £120 + VAT *;) And before anyone comments about doing the job properly - these guys are all ex audi / vw technicians and garage been established over 60yrs - they have looked after all my VW's ... work is top notch and I should know being a qualified automotive engineer
Scott 0 Posted February 21, 2003 nice one If anyone wants some of the same - then give us a shout.... Walkden VW they are called - all old geezers into their VW's ....
longman 0 Posted February 21, 2003 well i would of hopefully said about £200 as your not having that much done apart from checks and fluids
Scott 0 Posted February 21, 2003 well i would of hopefully said about £200 as your not having that much done apart from checks and fluids True to some extent - but replacing the fuel pipe isnt a nice job - it runs into the drivers side chassis rail .... and adjusting the gear shift cables is also very tricky to get right - and you ever tried welding up galvanised steel ? :D - its like tin foil when welding ! *:) All three good reasons why Im not doing it myself *:)
too hot 0 Posted February 21, 2003 Scott, Sounds like a bargain to me ,try taking it to VW to get that lot done, pity they are not closer to me.
Scott 0 Posted February 21, 2003 Scott, Sounds like a bargain to me ,try taking it to VW to get that lot done, pity they are not closer to me.  Ive already tried mate - they aren't interested - the wont 'weld' they say - they want to REPLACE the exhaust and catalyst.. not weld up one bracket and the cat heat shield!! When he told me to rip the shield off I knew it was time to leave.... Jim 2 Posted February 21, 2003 Wow!! Talk about a bargain.. like you, I have a bunch of niggles with my car that I need to get sorted but I suspect they might be a bit more in total : * Squeeky accelerator cable (replace!!), * Exhaust seems to rattle around the downpipe from engine / join to middle section, * Could do with coolant flush / replace & change gearbox oil, * New HT leads so that I can actually get the ignition reference sensor attached! * The ever present steering problem which is suspect dodgy bushes.. but no idea how much it is to replace them, * And your regular old 10,000 mile service. Would pretty much be spot on though after that lot.. considering just biting the bullet and getting em all done when I go see Stealth next.. that is, assuming I dont sell the car first!!
