Restoration project K931 RBV

Recommended Posts

I thought there must be a special tool, they are certainly awkward little b###ers :bad-words: . Just used a standard ring tool and a lot of patience.

Iceviolet, the tip would be to buy the tool and use the sticky oil to coat shells and bores on rebuilding :D

Shawshankkid. Cheers for the comments mate , see you soon :salute:

very nice mate your doing well,i wish i could of got my engine out i can just about manage getting my head off.Its coming on very nice i think you will have a good chance at concours this year. It gets addictive after a while but when its all done you get a scence of personal satisfaction. You going to do a g60 next

For the gear box i brought a polishing kit off ebay with felt attachments and a buffer block it work great to get into the nooks ands kranies,i also used blackfire fine cut compound and meatal sealent,to finish off.

:notworthy: Thanks for the comments and tips Drewie, much respect for the work you have put into yours. I was going to ask what you had used on the alloy, there had to be an easier way than wirewool and solvol, will give it a try mate

if you were after the head work doing while its off ive just surcome to temptation and dropped mine off at www.cylinderheaddevelopments.co.uk heard good things about this place. Andy is a one man outfit and does it all by hand most of the tools he used are years old but as he says if it ant broken dont fix it. He knocked £200 off the original price he quoted me and thats taking it all apart and flowing and polishing it and rebuild it. I guess you will be looking at £300-500 i guess money well spent in my opinon lets hope it goes better?

Head is going to be rebuilt next week, not going to gas flow or modify though, just recut and regrind seats, new guides, seals, followers etc.

Should go better when its done considering it was out a tooth on the timing for some reason

Cyprus was brill Kip, we were sun bathing and swimming in the med while you guys were up to your knees in snow  but a harsh home coming with no hot water or heating as the boiler broke down on the day we left :censored:

There are some amazing galleries on at the moment, all that power and engineering :notworthy: :notworthy: I'm struggling to remember where all the bits go :shock:underseal engine 005.JPG[/attachment:9cu8yqzv]

This confirms it, I've finally lost it :cuckoo: I've spent all day removing probably the best underseal on the market, Hammerite black waxoil, but judging by the early results it has protected the underside well.underseal engine 003.JPG[/attachment:3i21r75u]

  Its finally back in one piece and working again.

I have had set up issues including bad earth contacts, alarm /immobiser cutting the engine when first gear engaged, gear linkage adjustments after finding reverse in R/1/2 positions, sounded like a bag of nails on initial start up untill the cam followers primed with oil

It needs a run now to allow engine management system to reset, and a real good fettling having been on the ramps for 2 months, but the major work is done

The budget is blown for the time being so some of the jobs that were planned will have to wait until next winter. I dont feel I'm ready to add up the costs yet, but I seriously underestimated :ignore:001.JPG[/attachment:2u5p658x]

A bit of tidying up where the Hammerite underseal was removed, but it looks so much brighter under there
