davej 0 Posted April 2, 2008 after an expensive garage visit to fit a new cv joint and a few other bits, i've found that the heatshield on the driveshaft was causing friction and vibration. i've removed it, which has cured the vibration. i spoke to one of the guys at volksmania in bristol who thought they were a bit pointless anyway, and safe to remove. just wondering if anyone on here has done the same? they're also impossible to get as replacement parts too, by the look of it. CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted April 2, 2008 cant see why vw put them there in the frist place,i thought it was to stop grease spilling on to the hot exhaust if the CV split.....? just leave it in the bin bud
Guest Posted April 2, 2008 Mines seized on and vibrates so ive just tied the bugger up tight! Sorted no cost`s , makes a change!
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted April 2, 2008 you on about the damper on the shaft?
davej 0 Posted April 3, 2008 not the damper, the curved heat resistant plastic bit that curves overthe driveshaft down by the cv joint. it's only bolted on at one end, so even if it's in good repair it will still wobble all over the place.
davidwort 0 Posted April 3, 2008 I don't think they're very critical, but I'd imagine the joint could get quite warm from the exhaust downpipe if you remove it, bad for the rubber boot too.
davej 0 Posted April 3, 2008 yeah. i'll keep my eye on it, make sure nothing melts! it's staying off though, one less thing to rattle.
