grega 0 Posted May 14, 2008 Hi guys. I just bought me a Corrado VR6 1996 (had a G60 some time back) And I'm exited to be back in the VW Corrado world. BUT...I have an issue I do not trust with this VR6. :( When the engine heats up it will stay around 120 deg C (water) driving hard or city. Which I think is way to high. My Oil temp is about 116 in city and 126 driving hard. One of the fans is constantly running (from the moment I turn over the engine) Probably connected directly. Is this normal? Also the secondary fan will kick in after the water temp has passed the 120 mark. I though I might have a Head gasket issue. But my oil is still clear and the water level is steady. Also I don't have over pressure in the water system. so that rules out my head gasket. Could one of you help me out here to whether this is normal (which I doubt) or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance Graham
Jim Bowen 1 Posted May 14, 2008 sounds like it could be a sensor or reader type thing playing up, but thats my measly knowledge having a try.
daleyboy 0 Posted May 14, 2008 My "Normal Temps" are 90 degs water and 100 oil , giving it some beans then the water remains around 90-95 and the oil goes up to 115 or thereabouts, mine ran hot until i changed the thermostat so it could be as simple as that, thats where i would start. It sounds like the water temp needs to be under control will which in turn control the oil temp, dont forget that oil temps of over 120 degs will require fully sythetic oil as it degrades after. Now i run sytha silver (semi) as my temps are under control............hope this helps.................sounds like either as you say someones directly connected the fans or it could be the car just trying to control temps but you temps need to be reduced and i dont believe they are normal............ :D
grega 0 Posted May 14, 2008 Thanks for the quick reply. I was planning to change the oil anyway and I will replace it with a higher grade (as you said daleyboyVR6) I will also change out the thermostat and see how that goes. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again Spoilers up!
