gogsboy 0 Posted May 18, 2008 Fixed one leak (thermo housing) after reading write up on here but once done another leak and done some more searching and mention of the crack pipe which I guess would have been best to do at the same time as housing. So now I have a leak which seems to be coming from two areas and appears to be crack pipe and water pump neck of the woods. So can someone let me know what should get done, is there anything else around the pump that is best to do while at it or is it just bare pump and crack pipe. On the pump front, are VW best bet, plastic impellors or metal, any makes to avoid if not best to buy from VW. And on the crack pipe, I got most my housing and bits from Ford, can you get the crack pipe from Ford too and if so anyone got the part number. I bought a euro car parts pump that failed again after 3 months. I had to replace it with a local motor factor sourced pump as I needed the car that day, but I wished I'd used the VW part. Get the VW part and only have to do it once!
gogsboy 0 Posted May 19, 2008 Cheers, just read somewhere about the impellors, I would have through metal best but perhaps not, anyone know what VW supply and if there is a better alternative
was8v 0 Posted May 19, 2008 Cheers, just read somewhere about the impellors, I would have through metal best but perhaps not, anyone know what VW supply and if there is a better alternative The VW one that came out my engine was plastic impeller, the 2 cheap ones were metal. I'd be tempted to get this: http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info. ... cts_id=586 Looks like metal impeller and FEBI bits are usually very good.
