Hello - my first post ... Heater Matrix VR6

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone ... great website & what a great car the Corrado is. Well most of the time!

About time I got my initial post in here too :)

Unfortunately the heater matrix has gone on my 1994 VR6 :(

Steamy Windows & Tina Turner come to mind !

When I had my discs & pads replaced the garage technician said the part itself is not expensive (£25 - £40?) but to replace it the whole dash has to come out. I was going to attempt it myself but he wished me good luck. Apparently can be bit of a nasty job ... So HELP, is it ....? Otherwise I have been quoted approx. 5 hours labour, may be around £300 !

Cheers, Lee

Please feel free to email me on this one as well as any welcome replies here. Unfortunately I cannot access the forum at work as 'denied' ... !! Hence I would repond to email quicker, but here too when I I can.

1994 L Reg Metallic Green Corrado VR6, Black Leather (Storm spec), BBS Alloys. 160K+ mileage. Mostly FSH. Owned last 5 years (almost).

Hi mate, welcome along :)

The heater matrix is a dash out job really...I think you can get away without it...but it just makes things easier to get at with it removed in my opinion.

Its not actually a massively hard job, more time consuming id say.

Everthing inside the car is pretty self explanatory as far as removal, its just that there are some bolts/nuts in the engine bay holding the dashboard (x2) and another 2 holding the heater box if i remember right.

Just a case of taking your time, and working cleanly.

Neil. :)

Hey Lee

welcome to da forum!!

I had the same problem about a year ago, there is a load of info on here if you do a search.

I started off thinking i would let my local vag specialist do it for me but to save a bit of time and money i took out a load of dash bits for them so i wasn't paying them to just unscrew things. When i took it to the garage, they reckoned that i was almost there and might as well carry on!! So i did and it saved me a few hundred quid!!

So have a go even if you get stuck you can get a garage to finish it off i guess.

As mentioned it's not difficult just fidely and time consuming, i did it with the dash in (even though a good part of it came out!!) I would say that removing the pasenger seat will help, as then you can lie on ya back to reach up behind the dash, or just get a small child with little hands!!

good luck.... :)

Defo recommend doing yourself, as previously said take your time and bit fiddly in places (defo them 2 bolts for the dash with my fatt fingers) but you would certainly fell a great deal of satisfaction from it. :D

Best of luck mate

I did this last year and started doing a write-up with pictures, but unfortunately never finished writing it. :(

I'll try and find what I did and the photos and see if I can post up what I've got in the knowledge base, if you want?

Hi & Thanks Yes Please that would certainly help...due to lack of time for me at the moment my first real opportunity on this will be mid-late June so no rush for photos/your welcome post. Cheers again :) Lee

Welcome to the forum Lee. Sorry to hear the matrix has gone, while I've never had to do it myself, you may find the following useful:

http://the-corrado.net/wiki/index.php/H ... eplacement

Part of the knowledge base for bits that commonly break (most of them...)

Cheers,

Thomas

Nice one Thomas ... I have read & noted the (de)'structions - sounds quite straightforward, but I am doing it so we shall see, hopefully later this month when more free time. Cheers, Lee.

GreenVR6 - My heater Matrix started to leak coolant resulting in a strong smell from the heater vents as well as wet carpet....anyways to cut a long story short, earlier today I took out the dash and removed the matrix. Have had a browse on the forum to find recommended replacements and it seems that it's best to buy the genuine part.

I have found the following website selling the part and I think it could be the genuine Valeo matrix for a very reasonable price of £36.01 inc VAT & delivery.

https://sslrelay.com/buypartsby.co.uk/h ... cordID=213

Hope this helps and good luck with the destruction.

Thanks very much Storm_VR6 for your posting ... duly noted & will order once I have seen condition of my current matrix. Unfortunately I have not yet had a proper chance to get to work on my Corrado. Will let you guys know once I have ! Cheers, Lee
