carpy25 0 Posted July 24, 2008 Hi Max 16 valves both the 1.8 kr and the 9a 2.0 are old school stuff and don't respond well to "chipping" you will get far better results changing cams ,big valve heads, polished and ported heads and twin webers , not much easy power gains from these engines sorry , start with a good air filter and exhaust system then sort out the handling what you lose on the straights you can then make up in the bends :D Rob
davidwort 0 Posted July 24, 2008 A 2L KE-jet is worth having custom mapped if you've had other modifications like headwork and cams, don't buy an off the shelf chip though. The 1.8 doesn't have any fuelling 'map' as it's fuel is 'mechanically' controlled and the best setup for any engine modifications is a rolling road session and the fuel system 'control' pressure set up appropriately via adjustment of the warm up regulator, base timing etc. I'd personally say 100 quid spent on a rolling road tune-up on either of these cars is money well spent, you could easily gain up to 10bhp, something you'll never even get close to attempting to 'chip' a 2L 16v with an off the shelf map.
