ardandy 0 Posted August 13, 2008 Right I'm on my way to a rebuild now but the only way I'm likely to do it (as saving up everything in one go isn't going to happen!) is for me to buy the parts needed myself bit by bit and when complete get someone to do it all. I'm unsure on everything I need though, as well as what else is worth doing whilst its been rebuilt. Aim is for a rebuilt engine to take a stage 2 s/c reliably. Parts I'm aware of that need replacing/worth repacing whilst the works done. Pistons - My block will be re-used and rebored to a 'true' (is it???) 2.9, not sure on size I'd need but thinking about JE Pistons? ARP Rod & Head Bolts - Where can you get these from? Are ARP a make or the type? (Yes I'm that good!) Valves & 268 Cams - Want the head rebuilding too. ------ Still stuck on what I need for a rebuild. Help! ------ Clutch & Flywheel - Probably worth doing at the time, been told a Standard VR6 clutch can take a Stage 2 easily. Radiator - Mines fine but a fair few years old so think i'll swap this too Hoses - Already got a Samco Hose set waiting! :) Chains/Tensioners/Water Pump - Again, prob worth doing at the time Exhaust - Already got a Milltek Sports CAT waiting, just need the cat back system now. General Service Items - Obviously! Ok, what else? :)
Toad 0 Posted August 13, 2008 Replace Engine and gearbox mounts, wishbones, tie rods, ball joints. Remove subframe, rad surround and front cross member, shot blast, respray and coat with waxoyl/equivalent. Remove rust from and respray battery tray. Consider replacing brake lines while engine is out. Start otter uber-race breeding program. The rest of your list looks ok. Flywheel should be fine still, unless you want to swap for lightened unit. Chains, tensioners etc are worth doing while you've got it in bits, and crank main oil seal. Fit a mocal, replace crack pipe, paint block. ARP is a brand. VR6C 0 Posted August 13, 2008 its a plastic water pipe at the front of the engine, usually goes brittle and cracks (hence the name crack pipe). Might be worth ordering the gruven metal one from strictly dubs - this will not crack. I'll be doing this soon, just need a set of samcos now
