BigTartanJudge 0 Posted September 20, 2008 If you have breakdown cover, then just get it taken to a garage mate, preferably a specialist like G-Werks. A lot less stressful at the end of the day. If you don't have cover, then just buy some it's like £40 for annual cover or something. Good luck.

rado mc 0 Posted September 20, 2008 hi, i've had very similar problems myself recently with my 16v, it baffled my mechanic/father-in-law and his partner for a week but finally today after probing, unpluggling re-plugging and testing everything finally cracked it. turns out whoever changed the cam belt last had not tightened the cog (sits behind the twin pulleys?) on the end of the crankshaft and this over time had worn away some notch on the inside thus throwing it out of sync and dropping power considerably like you mentioned feeling like a spluttering 1 litre micra. when checking the timing it showed it as spot on but it wasn't case app. £20 later for a new cog and a cambelt the difference was immediate, all power back after weeks of frustration. app i was very lucky as there was not much left of this notch so came close to what would have been the same as a cam belt failure. sorry i'm not too accurate with descriptions etc but i hope this gives you another avenue to explore and hopefully works out. boost monkey 0 Posted September 20, 2008 Sorry if this has been mentioned, but what's with the breather on the ISV? is it something to do with boost recirculation?
waynos 0 Posted September 20, 2008 yea, before it was plumbed into the boost return pipework along with the oil breather on the cam cover
Rustynuts 0 Posted September 21, 2008 Is it running rich? Sooting up the plugs?
Riley 0 Posted September 21, 2008 Oh man, i hope this dosn't turn into a thread similar to mine :( Few things to try if you haven't already: 1/ Unplug the lambda and note the changes. 2/ Loosen the full throttle switch plate off, cable tie the wot switch up and fasten the plate back so that its cleared at full throttle. Again, note down the changes. (it will probably hunt at idle) 3/ Get hold of a spare blue temp sender and connect up to it but without the sender being sat in the rad hose, just cable tie it around the rad hose or something.. Again, note down what happens. Neil.
waynos 0 Posted October 11, 2008 right i have checked everything! felt fuel related, i went back in the tank to have a nose around. took the pump right out this time and guess what i found? a kinked fuel supply hose. the thing was so damn long also so its been trimmed down and my car now runs! as i said before the pump looked new so must of been changed at some point but the hoses were extremely long. I think i in love with my car again

VEEDUBBED 0 Posted October 13, 2008 ...which brings up the question, why didn't you check the fuel pressure???? prefrebly using a mech. pressure gauge. Hope you've sorted it.
waynos 0 Posted October 13, 2008 i was actually in the process of doing that but i thought id double check everything first ( i had another topic about fuel pressure)

waynos 0 Posted October 13, 2008 looks like i spoke too soon. went to take the car for a spin today. Got to the second road away from my house and the misfire was back but then it dissapeared. got to my mates house which is about 5 miles away and was idling at a roundabout.idle just dropped and the car cut out. Tried to crank again but it wasnt firing. left it for a second and tried again. this time the starter wouldnt turn. We pushed it round the corner and tried to jump start it off his car. It would just crank but no start . on the third or fourth attempt it wouldnt crank at all even though it was connected to another car. the fuel pump was coming on because i could hear it and im pretty sure its getting spark so i dont know whats up. heres a few pics lol friggin car i hate it! dirtytorque 0 Posted October 13, 2008 how did you check for spark. Have you got 12 volts at the starter when you turn the ignition to the on position? i'm thinking maybe ignition switch.
waynos 0 Posted October 13, 2008 ignition switch was brand spankers from vw changed it due to some wierd starting issue i had.couldnt really see so didnt test for voltage at the starter.as for spark its strange we took a lead off and put another plug in.it wasnt sparking but then we realised the plug needs an earth.however whilst turning the car over like thise you could see the lead arc from its connector on the dizzy cap to the block! i know thats not a good thing
waynos 0 Posted October 20, 2008 right ive deffo got a spark, checked with a timing light so its gota be fuel... the saga continues
