Cnut 0 Posted September 20, 2008 I have recently advertised my Corrado for breaking in a local newspaper and the other day I got a phone call from a woman wanting the complete brake setup from my car. From what I understand she was going to transplant it into her Scirocco, at the time I was unsure of what price to charge so I said I would let her know. I had a word with my old man who works in the motor trade and he said about £150 should do. So I sent her a text to let her know and got rudely woken up at 7.30 this morning to a text saying she didn't want to spend more than £75  Last year the discs and pads were replaced with genuine vw parts and I said to her she can take anything she needs to do the conversion. Now was £150 too much or did she just want something for nothing?! Rant over! Phil
davidwort 0 Posted September 20, 2008 Some people are prepared to pay silly prices for old brake calipers, I've seen sets of 280mm calipers, carriers disks and pads go for well over 150 quid, on the other hand my local scrappy sells calipers for 10 quid each, which TBH is more what they are worth. Not sure how anyone would fit 280's to a Scirroco though? they're 4 stud for a start and would require different hubs to mount the carriers on as they have 239mm brakes, not even 256's as standard, perhaps it's a LHD 16v or something? Cnut 0 Posted September 20, 2008 She mentioned she would be taking the hubs too if that makes a difference on price?
davidwort 0 Posted September 20, 2008 She mentioned she would be taking the hubs too if that makes a difference on price? in that case, that's a fair amount of kit so don't just give it away, I'm sure there's a fair few people out there that would pay 40-50 quid for just a pair of corrado hubs alone. boost monkey 0 Posted September 20, 2008 yeah ditto what David said. Hubs are easily worth £20 a pop for normal 4-stud ones, so 50stud would go for a bit more. I reckon calipers, carriers, discs, pads and hubs is fair for £150 ish, esp as the discs and pads are nearly new genuine.
