Valerian 0 Posted October 16, 2008 Etka doen't seem to be very clear on this fact so does anyone know if all KR engined Corrados were fitted with the same starter motor? If not....are they interchangable?
davidwort 0 Posted October 16, 2008 AFAIK all KR Corrados have the same starter, the solenoid live connector changed in 1992 when the 2.0 16v came out but if you change the female spade connector block on the KR loom you could still use a 9A starter. also pretty much any 4cyl passat from 88-92 will have the same starter, I'm using a 2L 8V one on mine ATM. Valerian 0 Posted October 16, 2008 Just been looking around the net and most parts places list one starter for up to 1991 and another for after 1991. Some 1991 onwards starters also seem to be provided with a gearbox bush.

Valerian 0 Posted October 25, 2008 Well....i can confirm that the early and late starter motor are not the same. I ordered a motor to fit an engine up to a 1991 and my supplier sent me a later one which doesn't fit. I will post in here pics and details of the differences a little later tonight. Valerian 0 Posted October 25, 2008 Starter on the right is the early one and starter on left is the later one. Mounting holes are spaced differently. Starter motor housing on later motor is bigger diameter. Main shaft/spindle is shorter and smaller diameter on later starter. Bendix on later starter has shorter throw.
