Wheel woes!!

In New Zealand it's very hard to find a decent set of BBS RS wheels, especially ones that fit. After about 6 months, I found some that I thought might work.

 

They are RS 039 (16x7" 4 x 114.3 and et24). I have recently found out that I can't redrill them because the centre bore is something like 75mm+ and the new holes could potentially crack through to the centre bore.

 

I have a 1990 16v and want to know how the hell to make these wheels fit! Do I:

a) find some 4x100 centres overseas and ship them to NZ (would probably be very expensive option).

b) redrill and risk cracking through to the centre bore despite advice not to.

c) sell them and wait another 6 months+ before I find a set that will fit.

 

The other option is to run adaptors. The only problem here is that the adaptors will be at least 20mm, making the true offset about et4! Will this even work if i roll the guards!? If so, what kind of tyres would i need to run?

 

Most people in my NZ Club are very conservative and don't like low offset wheels, so I thought some of you crazy english blokes could help me! I wan't to make these wheels fit one way or another!

Hi mate, 4x100 centres have 30 split rim holes/smaller centres than yours that have 34.

4x100 16" RS are expensive, but you'll find some on either ebay.de or www.edition38.com

 

I think your best bet would be to get your hubs off, and get them redrilled and tapped to the matching PCD, if there enough room on the hub face to do it ?

Can you post a pic of the fronts and backs of your wheels? It may be possible to re drill the wheels. Otherwise as above re drill your hubs and discs to 4 x 114.3. There wont be enough material on the front hub so a ring will have to be added to the outside of the hub for strength as the holes for the new pcd will be right near the edge.

I can post up some pics tomorrow, but have had them taken to two different wheel engineering specialists in Auckland and both have explained why it can't be done :( drilling + tapping the hubs sounds like a lot of work and potentially also very expensive?

Cheaper than buying 4x100 RS though i expect mate. Porsche fitment RS are usually a bit cheaper, still expensive getting them sent to NZ.

My 17's were sent from Ireland, they had the tyres on and cost me 130 euro each to get posted.

serach vortex as theres a lot of info on there along with pics of what is possible in terms of re drilling. At worst if you have too much problems you can always sell them and buy a new set with a higher offset. Most Jap rs's are ET 40- ET50 so have plenty of scope for adapter. Even fitting 5 stud wheels on 4 stud hubs is possible with the adapters from concept wheels.
