BLK16vtRADDO 0 Posted November 11, 2008 Ive just bought 2 Raddo's for a grand total of £800 one J plate 2.0 16v 9a + H plate 1.8 16v KR Im gonna use the H plate as a base for a resto project its been a daily for last 10yrs or so and the J plate has to much rot to fix within a small bidget . My question is what should I do with the 2 engines, and bits form both cars , Im on a tight budget so no massive power monsters yet but a good base wouldnt go a miss. Im looking forward to some good advice as this is my first Raddo project but not my first VW project. I will be posting pics as soon as I get a good idea as to where things are gonna go and progress is made. Thanks Joe
MattWilde 10 Posted November 11, 2008 I'm a G60 man myself, but from what i've read it's a bit of a shame you are keeping the H plate for the restoration. I think you want to put the KR cams (possibly the whole head) in the 9a, seems to be a popular mod. I'm sure a far more knowledgeable person will be along soon though, good luck and get some pics up! BLK16vtRADDO 0 Posted November 12, 2008 Well not much in the way of progress 2day just a bit of cleaning and swap a front seat and a few pics to show what i have got to swap and change about if i need to First 1.8 16v Second 2.0 16v As you can see the J plate has alot of rust , sils both sides, rear quaters, filler area to name a few so that will be the donor. I will start again 2morrow (earlier this time).
mic_VR 3 Posted November 12, 2008 I believe, and I'm sure someone will correct me if needed, that both the mountings and ancillaries on the KR and 9A are identical so I would take the 9A engine and put it in the KR with the KR cams as already suggested. Should be good for about 160bhp and easy as pie to do. Welcome to the forum by the way.
BLK16vtRADDO 0 Posted November 12, 2008 This is true but would using the 2.0 16v KE-Jet management instead of the K-Jet and metering head from the 2.0 be of any benifit for tuning and maybe modification ,seeing as i have both cars to play with.? mic_VR 3 Posted November 12, 2008 Probably not, I think both systems are the same. It's probably easiest if you're able to just swap over the bottom ends. That way you get all the benefits of having a pre emission regs car (KR cams are lumpier in all the right places, and you get to stick with no cat) but with a load more oomph! Cam change is a tried and tested mod but ususally people put the earlier cams in the later engine, this way you'll just be swapping over the bottom ends but essentially getting the same results. Have a quick search around, I'm sure someone must have done this already.
