paulypaul 0 Posted January 24, 2009 I can't get a strap wrench in to undo the black retaining ring, and it's too tight to move by hand. Any ideas?

Supercharged 2 Posted January 24, 2009 Large flat blade screwdriver and soft faced mallet usually works for me... If you start to rip it apart though and it won't budge, either cut it off but make sure you get a replacement first or if it's drivable just take it to vw and get them to stick the proper tool on it (they may even lend it to you as I can't imagine it gets used very much)
corradog60stage4 0 Posted January 25, 2009 used a piece of wood as a chisel and a hammer and tapped it anti clockwise. it came off and pump replaced was easy
jimmyvwjunkie 0 Posted January 25, 2009 hi well i have a fair amount of experience with locked/seized nuts as i own a 1972 veedub camper so everything was seized on it :D so what i normally do is go to halfords buy that super freeze spray that shrinks the bolt when applied, i then turn nut clockwise or hit it clockwise with a chissle and a dead blow hammer. the smacking clockwise breaks the seal of rust or lock threat what was applied. once thats done simply unscrew anti clockwise :salute: . allways works for me. so good luck
