red-rado 0 Posted February 7, 2009 I'm thinking of buying a G60. Just looking for a bit of general information about them. What are they like, day to day for driveability and reliability? Richardshoes 0 Posted February 7, 2009 Hi mate. I have one and pay £198 per year fully comp with esure and I'm 29. I spend most weekends messing with it. If your willing to learn about the cars then they are great fun to drive and work on imo. Economy is not too bad in mine I get 34mpg motorway and on average 25mpg around town. Super-G 0 Posted February 7, 2009 Yeah, ecconomy on a run is really good actually. Well up in the high 30's. Once you know what your doing with the engine, they're a peach to work on and they are pretty reliable for their age. Insurance wise, it was cheaper for me (27) to insure a G60 than it was to insure a 16 valve. Don't ask me why, but I didn't complain. :tongue: Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Jim 1 Posted February 8, 2009 I used to run a slightly tuned G60 (207BHP) as a daily a few years ago.. to be honest fuel economy wasn't excellent but it was 100% reliable and never let me down. Andy665 0 Posted February 11, 2009 I had a G60 as a daily driver upto to a couple of years ago. Bought it with 117k on the clock, immediately had the charger rebuilt and then put it into daily use. Kept a full log of maintenance and fuel consumption that I have just checked back on. Used every day for 18 months and put just under 53k on it, all it needed was: Rear discs and pads all round Two front tyres Indicator bulb Fuel consumption - calculated properly from brim to brim - 33.9mpg Only precautions I took were not to go above 3000rpm until oil temp reached 80 degrees and oil and filter change every 5000 miles. iow_corrado_g60 0 Posted February 11, 2009 I merit what everyone is saying however a tuned G60 which i have owned 2 of now, if you buy it like I did to drive and put ur toe down when you can it wont be economical in the slightest, but it all depends how you drive it and to what level of tuning you take it too, but they are awesome cars if money was no object I would not of got rid, they do cost a little to maintain but certainly no more than a new car also if you buy a highly maintained one, it certainly will be reliable the 8v lump is as strong as an ox! heres a pic of my white and aqua, Buy one!!! mic_VR 3 Posted February 11, 2009 Sorry but I don't know much about the G60, but all I will say is if it's fuel economy that's putting you off the general feeling from other threads is that pretty much all the Corrado's are level on mpg. You'd be looking at around 33mpg for VR6, 34-35mpg for G60/16V, and maybe 37-40mpg for an 8V. But this is completely down to how they are driven. I rarely get 27-29mpg out of my VR these days but just recently I've been tending more towards the enthusiastic end of the driving scale, and you hear 16V only getting 28mpg if driven hard. Other costs are going to be pretty similar across the range as well. Some of the VR/G60 specific parts are a little more expensive but not prohibitively so. Don't worry about it, maintain it well and just drive it chap! On an off topic note, iow_corrado_g60 I farking love the look of that white one you had. Schweet! JMC 0 Posted February 11, 2009 My G60 is now pushing 244bhp and 222lbft with a 1.9l rebuild and I still get over 30mpg on the motorway. Granted in stop/start traffic it is a little thirstier. As folks have said it's all down to how you drive them. As a day to day car, they are fine (mines a daily), however be meticulous about the charger servicing at the correct mileage intervals, especially if it has a smaller pulley, and don't take it above 3000rpm until it is up to temperature (80 degrees).
