MonkeyVR6 0 Posted April 15, 2009 Hi chaps, As above really, I'm getting some work done by a chap at my local car club, I've got the new rear brake pads, and goodridge brake lines...all I need now is rear brake discs and handbrake cables - so anyone know the rough cost from Volkswagen? Cheers, D.

yeti 0 Posted April 15, 2009 i have some spare new gsf brembo discs in the garage if your anywhere near me and wanna make me a sensible offer? - i'm in bedford
Supercharged 2 Posted April 15, 2009 On a VR Discs are £20 Handbrake cables are £10 Wheel bearings are £19 and ABS cages are £9 - all prices plus VAT and you will need 2 of each of those plus about £5 worth of bolts for the carrier and calipers. If you can get trade prices the discs are only £13 each, bearings £14 and handbrake cables £6.50 I'd also consider changing the stub axle bolts, dust shield and stone sheild if it's corroded badly. mic_VR 3 Posted April 15, 2009 I paid £23.50 each back in Oct 2007 if that helps. Edit - Steve beat me to it!

Brilliant, cheers dude. I'll go and order them from Volkswagen tomorrow. What are stub axle bolts, dust shield and stone shields?!
Supercharged 2 Posted April 15, 2009 Bassically you have the beam itself, then the big metal stone sheild, the stub axle and then bolts holding it on then a small cover for the bolts then the disc and bearings push onto this... Depends how far you want to go really...
MonkeyVR6 0 Posted April 16, 2009 Ordered the discs and handbrake cables and a oil gasket that they said would be a good idea to replace if I was doing the discs. Volkswagen said they'd never heard of, or changed the dust or stone shield(s) themselves...so I didn't bother. The wheel bearing (part 23 on the screen) was a bunch of bolts including a wheel bearing, but they were 45 Euros per side, so I didn't bother as I'd just spent 120 Euros on other car parts! They're going to fit the discs (and oil gaskets), pads, handbrake cables and goodridge brake hoses and re-do brake fluid for about 160 Euros.
