Mawrick 0 Posted April 24, 2009 Anyone know if there is any danger with the 134a gass in the A/C system, reason I wonder is that I was thinking of opening up the system (for all I know it might be empty) cause I want to replace the A/C lines, now that I'm going to pull the engine, and the get i refueled at a shop later on...as many of the pipes seem to be in bad shape....:) Any danger for toxicity or anything else ? bruny 0 Posted April 25, 2009 Wont help the atmosphere much if there is anything in it, should get it vacuumed out! but as long as you dont come in contact with it will be no problem!
Mawrick 0 Posted April 25, 2009 ok, so it's not like the gas itselfe is "toxic"?......but will try to get it vacuumed if I do anything to it.........maybe I should just get it checked and keep it as it is, it's just some of the connections seem to be a bit corroded on the outside..... yeti 0 Posted April 25, 2009 a/c refridgerant is highly carcinogenic (cant spell!) and i think technically illegal to vent into the atmosphere as its a green house gas, new systems use a different refidgerant with a green dye in usually so you can spot leaks, this'll go everywhere as its pressurised... i made this mistake on a modern car recently and covered the entire engine bay/me and the ground in green gye, wash it off anywhere quick iif you come into contact with it
bruny 0 Posted April 25, 2009 Dont think the new gas is compatible with the old type of seals, it should be a clear gas in this one. Ideally get a specialist in to drain and flush and refill the system, or if its working just leave it alone! Bacon and sunshine are carcinogenic :norty:

bruny 0 Posted April 25, 2009 Gave up reading newspapers years ago :bad-words: ooh, thats a good one for the 'What gets your arse, vent your spleen here' thread in off topic chat. Just read through it all and nearly fell off the chair laughing, dont need to moan about anything now
