FasthunVR6 0 Posted April 28, 2009 Hi all, Ran the old girl up to Scotland last weekend, no problems 94 Celcius all the way Oil Temp, Water at about 75. On the Way back, oil temp starts pushing 102-104, water temp fluctuates beween 85-100. All this at the Gvernment advised speed limit  No Smoke, black, blue or white. Oil Level OK, Coolant Nominal, no obviouse leaks or fluid loss. Your thoughts, Sticky thermostats? as she ran fine from Ipswich back to London last night after starting off hot before obligatory fuel stop? Many thanks
dr_mat 0 Posted April 28, 2009 Your oil temp is too low. An unmodified VR6 will show 100-110 deg C at motorway cruise speeds. I actually think the temps on the way back are nearer to normal.. Sounds like your thermostat is stuck open.
dgtvr6 0 Posted April 28, 2009 I certainly get around 110 on a MWay run for oil...
Reggit 0 Posted April 28, 2009 My oil fluctuates a bit like you would expect, but only between 104 and 110 (at legalish speeds) I dare say it'd go higher if caned. My water sits about 80 constant (unless in slow traffic). I'd be a bit wary of the 'stat, it'd be worth swapping out for piece of mind, and it isn't overly hard or expensive. A bit fiddly though from what I remember.
