engine subframe swap...any hints /tips

i need to fit a replacement engine subframe to my g60

 

obviously i know the basics...support engine , undo the bolts etc

 

im thinking unbolt the rack and leave the rack on the car , i expect the pas pipes may be siezed ?

 

any comments on the swap , what to look out for etc

its pretty straight forward the rack shud just hang while ya drop it away :)

an engine support beam is a must I'd have said.

Probably easier to undo the ball joints and take the frame out with the wishbones still connected

yeah got the engine support bar

 

unsure where the proper engine lift points are on the g60 engine? any ideas

theres a hole molded onto the gearbox end of the head...nothing else obvious , im sure i'll figure it out

right ..all done with no big issues

 

drove it home and the steering is now lopsided a bit :( not much maybe like one hour on a clock face

 

any opinions...should i loosen the bolts and see if the frame will settle and re tighten

 

or just pay to get the tracking re set ?

I don't think it will make much difference, I just got mine all aligned after dropping the frame, nothing seems to go back spot on with front end work.

Hi steveo, does the steering actually pull??

 

If not then just move the wheel but if it does you will need to get it re-alligned front to back as it's probably the thrust angle that's out...

 

Elite in Rainham is probably the best place to go or Stealth of course...

rack wasnt touched ...just unbolted from the frame

 

anyway had it tracked now

Cool - was the rest of the SF that bad or was there just a defect in part of it like a thin bit?

 

Speaking to my mate last night who has a similarly tidy car but a subframe that's about to fall off...

the rest of was scabby like most are...rot seemed to be that patch only , plenty of rusty crap fell out when i banged it on the floor though

 

gona have the valver one off for a refurb before it gets bad
