2.0 16v will not start after mixture adjustment UPDATE

Recommended Posts

Very strange.

I corrected the mixture using the mixture screw as my car was a little rich. It was all fine and running as smoothly as it ever has. I then turned the car off, went back half hour later and now it wont fire at all!!!

What have I done!!!

Any suggestions?

When I took the inlet pipes apart I noticed a fair amount of oil in there?!?!?!?!

any help would be much appreciated

I'd always understood the 2L 16v had a tamper cap on the metering head screw because they were calibrated at the factory and the ECU/differential pressure regulator carried out any necessary running adjustments from the lambda feedback. It might not know where it is if you've adjusted the metering head way off what the ECU is expecting as a base setting?

yeah i think that is basically what i have done.

Anyone know how to reset the ecu or what i should do?

Cheers

i seen somewhere and done this myself that you put an amp meter on the connector on the engine side of the metering head with the engine running and at normal temperature and you adjust the screw with a long reach 3mm allen key let the reading settle it will fluctuate a bit but for the 2l 16v your looking for 2.5ma the reading will bounce about a bit the lower the reading it is running rich and the higher it is running lean to make it rich turn the screw clockwise & anticlockwise for lean also don't rev the engine with the allen key in as it can damage something in the metering head. You need the amp meter in series if your using a digital meter and its reading negative swap your leads round(i snipped one of the wires to put in my amp meter and done the adjustment then rejoined the wire).

good info.

so I just need to find out where to plug the meter in and what the reading needs to be.

thanks for your responce, much appreciated

UPDATE!!

Ok. I had a "mess" again with the metering screw. I unplugged my battery for an hour to hopefully maybe reset the ECU. Whether it worked or not I dont know!!!

I then put the metering screw exactly in the middle. I turned it all the way clockwise then all the way anti clockwise and found where the centre is.

I left the car for an hour and started it. It started fine. I took it for a drive. It drives fine.

The only thing it wont do is idle properly. It is very lumpy.

I'm taking it to a local tuning company who specialise in this sort of thing so hopefully all will be fine. Shame though as I really wanted to sort it out myself.

measuring the differential pressure regulator while the engine was running I read 38,3mA at idle. even if I turn the allen key right or left this value remains the same. any suggestion?

oxygen sensor thats what was up with mine make sure its an original sensor not a generic sensor as i had changed the cat & oxygen sensor and started having problems about 6 months after I thought the sensor & cat would be ok as fairly new but got a new original sensor fitted and solved the problem
