WE NEED HELP!

Recommended Posts

Guest shrimpling69

Hi, really hope someone out there can help us.

We have a problem with our '95 2ltr Corrado which keeps cutting out . Basically, sometimes he starts and runs fine, then the the power either just dies or the revs go up & down then completely die.

When we start the engine, it turns over but doesn't start. We've found one of the cables at the front of the engine which has lost part of the rubber covering and when we unplug the cable the car turns over but won't start so we think maybe that cable is the problem - the part number shows 8103957-001 however I've had a look at parts websites and can't find the code at all - neither of us are mechanics so unfortunately we don't know what the cable is!

Please can anyone shed any light?

That looks like a Bosch number, not a VW one, so will be pretty hard to cross-reference.

Whereabouts is it on the engine? I'm guessing it is the crank position sensor which is down on the front of the engine by the starter motor / engine mount. If so the number is 037 906 433A. Price from the dealer is a rather scary £138, but the ADY engine was fitted to quite a lot of models (Corrado, Golf, Jetta, Sharan), and that sensor was also used on a couple of other engines so it should be possible to get one from the aftermarket.
