Simple induction question...

1.8 16v engine, want to fit a cone filter to replace the airbox (see what its like).

 

Theres loads of hoses on the top of the air box which im unsure of their purpose / what to do with them when removing the airbox... Any tips? :)

You cant fit a cone filter to this engine and you dont want to either. All it really does is make some more noise. If thats what your after take out the bottom of the airbox and drill holes in it. Try to do it on the wing side.

Those are your fuel injectors. 16v corrados work on what called mechanical fuel injection, so that the way they laid them out.

 

Same as above though mate. Take the bottom off the box holding the filter and drill loads of holes in it.

if you REALLY want to get an induction kit on a kr then you'll need to go standalone engine management and all that it entails

Pipercross do a 'Roar Box' which replaces the whole bottom of the airbox, and Stroeve do a cone kit with a special plate that attaches underneath the airbox lid. Both are expensive and not worth the bother imho. Just get a K & N panel filter and remove the snorkel from the airbox.

I had the stroeve for about 5 mins, took it off and drilled the airbox instead, sounds better and saved me a bunch of cash.

All you are going to manage to do is make more noise and suck hot crappy air into your intake from the engine bay.

 

If you really want to improve induction then modify the brake cooling duct and run some hose to the underside of the airbox, you will need to knock out the round plate that is tack welded into place, join it all up and you get a nice big 2 1/2 inchs of extra cold air hitting the underside of the air filter.
