diarmaid16 1 Posted September 14, 2009 Hey all, My 16v just had its test recently and failed. It needs a steering knuckle and the handbrake isn't pulling on the right hand side. Just wondering is the knuckle an awkward job and if anyone knows what would sort the handbrake. Seized caliper or handbrake adjustment? Any help appreciated. Cheers! davidwort 0 Posted September 14, 2009 I guess you mean track rod end, they're pretty easy, providing the old one isn't siezed on solid, just need a bal ljoint separator ideally. The brakes will more than likely be a siezed hand brake mechanism in the caliper, they're all prone to this over time.
Reggit 0 Posted September 14, 2009 A steering knuckle could also be a U/J on the column instead of a track rod end.
millerman 0 Posted September 14, 2009 just done a steering UJ on ryan_16v on here and its a pain in the arse to get to and give you back ache and i recomend to let the car cool right down as you will burn your self on the down pipe and manifold :D
diarmaid16 1 Posted September 14, 2009 Ya, thats the joint I'm on about. I hear theyre not the easiest on golfs and was told theyre they might be the same. So what should I do with the brakes?
KipVR 1 Posted September 14, 2009 Take the rear caliper off and you'll see the lever the handbrake pulls, you probably need to free it up.
