MikeVR6 0 Posted January 13, 2004 Ah, Winter again and my rear brake calipers have seized for the second time on three years. Fantastic engineering. I know that MK3 Golf calipers are better made and a straight swap. But has anyone tried EBC Calipers as detailed here http://www.needforspeed.co.uk/pages/sbv_pl.asp?Vehicle=VWCOR01&PartType=BRE07 Just noticed that they're around the same price as Genuine VW ones.[/url]
GazzaG60 0 Posted January 13, 2004 im in the same sitch. i replace one last yr and now im gonna replace another. Are the mk3 ones a straight swap? think ill just get a standard one anyway
h100vw 0 Posted January 13, 2004 I think MK£s are the same. The 38mm ones. There is a bit of messing about if you are putting them on an early MK2 but they should go straight on a C. You can get seal kits for later ones, if you have the time/ability to pull them apart yourself. Gavin
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 13, 2004 MK4 calipers are even better as they're alloy and less prone to seizing. They are a bolt-on mod but you need to make up some differnt brake lines apparently, which shouldn't be too bad a job. I think they're only around £50-£60 each from the dealer. woody 0 Posted January 14, 2004 The Mk IV calipers are made of alloy so do not have a tendency to seize up. John at JWR (16vG60 on this forum) fitted mine to my C after the old calipers seizing twice in two months. The only change i beleive has to be made is to enable the calipers connecting to the brake line using a Banjo clip. The old carriers are reused!!
