engine block clean up?

had a search and few products looked at but was after some specific advice.

 

the block i have has quite a bit of surface rust what is the opinion of those (you) in the know should I use on the the block to get rid of it. I was going to use a wire wheel on a drill or angle grinder but if their is any left embedded what is the best advice?

 

Was going to paint the block afterwards a mate has painted with some ford paint that he got cant remember nme aat the mo so any ideas from thise on here?

just scrape it off mate and wire wheel and brush and some elbow greese is always good :D

 

Cheers bud is there anything I should treat it with before some kind of paint?

i have just done mine and used various sized wire attachments on a drill, and painted directly onto the clean metal with smooth black hammerite. i did a mk2 golf like this years ago and it still looked great some 5 years later.

Yeah I was wanting black so hammerite will be cool if use that prob?

 

cause chaps as need to get this done before the engine rebuild which I have been told need to be done before easter(maybe couple years time). was hoping not next year but needs to be done for then :lol:
