My maf dilemma, help please

I've got my hands on a lovely looking polished metal maf housing but it's for a Golf a think, it's got the T-section coming off it for the maf to screw into, rather then the open hole for the 'rado flat type maf, hope that makes sense

can I fit a Golf one? My current one has 5 wires if that makes any difference, I don't really know what Im talking about if Im honest

all i know about em is from kev 5 wire early (ag ecu) 4 wire (cp ecu) you have the early ecu so it would need be the same

i have tried a ag ecu on mine it ticks over but try to rev it and it goes pair shapes

That's very rubbish, can I not lose a wire and fit the 4 pin job?

Anymore advice on this? Is it quite simply impossible to fit a 4 pin maf to a 5 pin car?

you could cut all the wires fit bullet connectors to them all and disconnect one at a time to see if it works :D
