New Suspension Setup... advice please:

Hello all,

 

Well, now I have my Corrado, I am looking to make it behave on the roads and be safe and fun. The rado is a G60 chassis... was wondering what suggestions were regarding:

 

What drop? I am running 17s with a 40mm drop, but not sure of the make or quality, so looking to replace it all. Maybe 35-40mm drop? Not looking at coil overs, just good quality std strut setup.

 

Anti-Roll Bars? Should I be upgrading these/adding? Again, what brands...

 

What bushes? Powerflex bush set? Can I get these and if so from where, any alternative brand recommendations?

 

Top Mounts & Wishbones? These should be replaced? Again what from where? Genuine VW only?

 

Need to service driveshafts: Looking at replacing all the boots and getting the CVs re-greased and looked at. With regard to CV boots what should I get? Genuine VW or 3rd party stuff alright?

 

Any other advice regarding a suspension upgrade would be much appreciated. I need this setup to be safe and designed to last.

My recommendation, in short....

 

H&R -35mm sport springs

Koni TAs F & R

Neuspeed 25mm front ARB and Neuspeed rear ARB (choice of 25 or 28mm adjustable)

VR6 top mounts

OE bushes all round and Vibratechics rear wishbone bushes

Vibra T engine mounts

Powerflex front cross member yellow poly bushes

New OE CVs or toughened Steel caged ones (speak to Stealth about the latter)

4 wheel laser alignment

 

Your car will stick to the road like barnacles to a hull with that little lot and drive really well :lol:

My only real question is where can I go as a one stop shop to get all the suspension, the bushes, new wishbones cv boots etc. I really want to make it as simple as possible from a decent supplier that will supply good quality stuff.

 

The CVs I intend to leave as is. I merely want them cleaned out and re-greased with new boots.

 

Engine mounts will come at a later stage - boost controller first.

 

VR6 top mounts?? Really - Reason?

 

Anyone elses input much appreciated. I intend to get this done next weekend once pay comes through :)

Stealth Racing in Southam, Warwickshire :lol: I've been frequenting his premises for 5 years and few places match their knowledge, skill, value and impartiallity.

 

VR6 top mounts?? Really - Reason?

 

Because they're bomb proof :lol: They're good for at least 80,000 miles.

Hello all,

 

Well spoken to Stealth, all very good. :) Only one concern really is the price on shocks. Given my limited budget I can only do 2 x front shocks currently - Stealth are wanting 200 just for 2 front TA Konis. Given that people like awesome are offering full BIlstein Kit with springs and shocks for 195 I just dont see how I can justify paying that for 2 shocks??

 

Any thoughts on this? :( :? :|

A pair of OE front shocks can be yours for somewhere in the region of £120, so £200 for adjustable ones is not unreasonable.

As a general rule, you get what you pay for...

You've got a 340bhp 13 second car and you're questioning the cost of high quality dampers? Surely transmitting that power to the road and having rock solid body control should be very high on your priority list?

Obviously it is high on my list. I was just questioning the price really? Is that right? From the point of view of control etc... for £200 a full set of springs and shocks all round may well do the car better than just a couple of front shocks with the old Koni springs in there? :?:

Sorry, I've re-read my last thread and it came across a bit abrupt and condescending :?

 

OK.....Koni are the best of the 'affordable' high end traditional mcpherson dampers. Specialists like Leda will make up a damper to your exact requirements, but they are REALLY high end and cost a lot more than Koni. £200 sounds a lot but when you're car is pitching and oversteering on a £200 Bilsteing Sportline kit (which are horrible btw), you'll wish you'd spent the extra on Konis. You're looking at about £500 for 4 Konis and the H&Rs......not cheap, but by far the best if you don't want to spend even more on good coilovers.

 

Think carefully about suspension and the amount of power you expect it to control......

Okay...

 

Well Having given it some thought I am starting to lean towards holding back, saving a little money and doing it properly!! With that in mind is it worth me considering a coil over setup and if so what should I be considering? Where do the figures jump to when considering coil overs?
