aks650 0 Posted January 11, 2010 hi need sum advice, changed the oil today on my vr6, used 5w40 Platinum stuff from Volkswagen but the engine seems to be noisier..? would 10w40 be better?? will it cause any damage? Cheers Adam
volksworld13 0 Posted January 11, 2010 the platnum oil is fully synthetic, id prob recommend 10-40 semi synthetic , castrol gtx! is pretty good, i think the 5-40 wouldnt be suitable for the vr , but cant be sure?
veedub16v 0 Posted January 11, 2010 thats a bit thin for an old engine tbh
volksworld13 0 Posted January 11, 2010 i dont think the vr are designed to run of on fully synthetic either, semi -synthetic is what is listed on autodata?!

volksworld13 0 Posted January 11, 2010 10-40 syntha from vw is also ok for the vr engine, id stick to 10-40 for this climate.!
