VAG-hag 0 Posted January 20, 2010 Nice one Bill, Cheers. I seem to remember having a good chat with you at one point about colour changing but from memory you had your seats recovered? I have the same goal in mind as you :D
A1 VR6 0 Posted January 20, 2010 Yes Chris I decided against using the paint tray and roller just went to MJ instead
dukest 0 Posted January 20, 2010 woudn't a grey to black swap be a lot easier chris? must be people out there wanting to go the other direction from you?
KADVR6 0 Posted January 20, 2010 firstly hi chris, and secondly i agree with dukest that the easiest way is to try and do a swap with someone as it will be the easiest way to do this, but if you wanna do it yourself then its an easy thing to do, but with doing the re-dying its like painting a car, the end job always depends on the prep work, if you rush getting the seats ready for dying it will look pants. So just take you time with the prepping and then the dying will be a very good job. also get the dying equipment form the furniture clinic mate, they have been doing this for over 30 years so they are very good, put it this way Rolls Royce trust them enough to be there official repairer. if you want any info when/if you start doing it just pm me mate. karl

nelds 0 Posted February 7, 2010 I know a guy who did the leather seats in his MK1 using products from here http://www.frost.co.uk/productList.asp? ... erior+Trim he said it was brilliant and no colour transfer as the colour soaks into the grain for a permanant change. I'm going to get some for the wife's Cabby to change hers from beige to black
C488ADO 0 Posted February 13, 2010 hello this is a piece of piss take a look at my build thread and see ok i havent changed the colour much but its exactly the same principle, however i have changed a few items from grey to beige with absolute ease.... i cannot reccommend this enough furniture clinic.com like i say take a look and let me know what you think any questions feel free to ask
bernie1033 0 Posted February 23, 2010 sorry about the delay on the pics but was without my laptop for the past fortnight :( ,anyway heres a few before and after for you and also i cant recommend the funitureclinic stuff enough, stick to the instructions and you get serious results. i completely stripped the interior for the colour change these shots are after the leather prep, you wont beleive the muck that comes off, i went from a late interior to early so the doorcards were a prob as i wanted to keep my late window switches so back to furniture clinic for a repair kit and this was the result and the colour change and fitted red karmann badge :D any questions id be happy help with. VAG-hag 0 Posted February 24, 2010 that looks class mate - nice work!! 8)
poll250 0 Posted February 24, 2010 I dyed my seats using the furniture clinic kit a couple of months ago and have used the car daily ( Take a look at my build thread: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=87868&p=1032257) The only thing I've noticed so far is there's a bit of wear on the drivers upper bolster where the vinyl meets the leather. The wear is on the vinyl bit and because of the large bolsters of the colour concept Recaros it's very hard to get in without rubbing it a touch everytime. I've still got some left over so will sort it if it gets any worse. Overall, Furniture clinic are really great to deal with, they'll even 'rent' you a compressor for free, which I would definitely recommend. hodaz 0 Posted February 24, 2010 Love that colour change. I'm definately going to have a go at changing my grey leather to something else. Just got to decide what...
bernie1033 0 Posted February 24, 2010 furnitureclinic are top class to deal with, i bought the extra large kit with a colour match, quick delivery and easy to follow instructions, my rado is a daily so i gave the driver seat 2 coats of both laquers to be safe, delighted with the finished result. mikkijayne 0 Posted March 8, 2010 That looks fab in a red car! So much that you have inspired me to do mine from grey :D i went from a late interior to early so the doorcards were a prob as i wanted to keep my late window switches so back to furniture clinic for a repair kit and this was the result Do you have any more detail of filling the window switch hole please? What did you do about the texture of the leather vs the filler? Can you see there was ever a hole there now (doesn't look like it in the pics). How did you pick the colour? Did you have something to match it to? I don't have any cream Corrado trim so I'm a bit stuck to get a factory colour.... Not that that necessarily matters, since its all changing from grey, but it would be nice to get it the right colour to match the parcel shelf :cat: Thanks :)
bernie1033 0 Posted March 8, 2010 when i filled the holes in the doorcards i just peeled the leather from where its attached to the hole on the back of the doorcard you then end up with the hole closed, then with the leather repair kit you have a piece of webbing which you cut to size and glue behind withe the leather glue after that has set its filler time and that is a case of repeating until perfect, the instructions you get with the kit are very good but i found when filling the doorcards that patience will leave it perfect,on the colour match i got my colour matched to a piece of trim and now they have my colour on file, the code i have is corrado yu 20g, im very happy with the match so use that code if you want that colour, any more questions feel free to ask, regards,,bernie.
