Seeing as this offer was still running, finally put in an order with Opie for some Redline MT90.

Great prices - looking forward to getting some MT90 in the gearbox! :)

Anyone tried the Castrol SMX S 75w-85 that Opie have on offer at the moment - Also, is 1 Litre enough to change the Gearbox Oil?

Thanks,

Ian.

No... you need two bottles mate. Think you only actually use about a litre and a half though...

Yeah dry capacity (brand new or rebuilt gearbox) is 2 litres. Refill capacity is approx 1.6 litres, but just pour it in until it starts over flowing out of ze ole and you know it's full :D

Have fun with that one Jim. Changing gear oil on the VR is not pleasant. I would get a cheap bottle of gearoil from halfords with the pull out spout, and then decant the redline into that bottle. The redline has no such spout you see, and you can't get the bottle into the engine bay to tip it into ze ole, either. You'll see what I mean :D

Oh and 4 tubs of Silky ordered, cheers Oilman :salute:

Was planning to get a funnel and length of pipe rather than decanting it directly mate... :) Or wheeling it round to Vince to do ;)

I used to do the funnel and tube method, until one time the tube fell out of the box and I filled the garage floor with MT90 instead of the gearbox

Ian, it's good stuff. Have used SMX-S and MT90 and they both offer a noticeable improvement. They're both as good as each other in my experience.

Lol @ Kev! Not exactly a cheap thing to go spilling everywhere! I always use a funnel/hose- think I'll use your method in the future ;) Might as well use the cheap oil as a flush.

Yeah I was not best pleased as I had to wait a few days for the replacement oil to come through

Yeah the cheapy bottles with the spout makes life so much easier!
