little_miss_naughty 0 Posted April 18, 2010 Hi My Rado is smoking a lot from the exhaust, it splutters a bit every now and then, and uses quite a bit of oil. When I took it for an mot in Nov he said the emissions were quite high. What is the problem and how can I solve it? Thanks Jackie
firecracker 0 Posted April 18, 2010 could be the piston rings letting by,the lambda sensor not functioning correctly and a few more variables, get a compression test done first to see if its as manufacturers spec suggests, good luck

A5 VRX 0 Posted April 18, 2010 Shouldn't cost alot at all for a compression check, got mine done for free at a local specialist. Any garage should do it Adam
pete_griff 0 Posted April 18, 2010 what colour is the smoke? bluey = oil black = excessive fuel white = water does the car smoke all the time, only under hard acceleration, only when warm etc etc? a compression test is a good place to start. if your compression is down then you're probably looking at an expensive bill to put it right if you're not doing it yourself... DG Autotech are almost certainly the best corrado garage in the country - they are based down at Kidderminster, which isn't 1 million miles away from you if you're in North Wales. BELIEVE ME you'll be glad you made the trip there if you go. best of luck getting it sorted - keep us posted...
steveo29 0 Posted April 19, 2010 the fact it uses oil kinda points towards wear n tear valve guides and seals are the first to go ...after that its bore wear and piston rings what engine is it and what milage /history ? might be worth grabbing a good used engine instead
