fla 9 Posted April 25, 2010 Does anyone have any Kumho KU31 fitted? if so, would you mind measuring the tyre width assuming its either a 195/40/17 or 205/40/17? Many thanks. Hopefully need to get a pair for the rear of teh car as i'm getting some arch rubbing after lowering recently.
mimjed 0 Posted April 26, 2010 im confused? a 195 tyre will be 195 wide and a 205 tyre will be 205 wide what do you mean? stretch may help, this can often help to reduce rubbing. also spacers, depends where its rubbing though. failing that your looking at rolling the arches. fla 9 Posted April 26, 2010 usually the width is pretty generic - 205 can actually be 210 or 212 even, sometimes the other way too ie 201 or even 200. Same for 195, hence the question.
mimjed 0 Posted April 26, 2010 fair cop. id presume they would have to fall within a set tolerance though. + or - 5mm? otherwise they arent what they say on the tin.
fla 9 Posted April 26, 2010 you're probably right, there should be *some* tolerance otherwise what's the point in specifying a tyre size. On a positive note, just had the car tracked up and camber adjusted and it has made a HUGE difference to ride quality and stability, perhaps the shocks and sprinigs are settling in a bit now. The rears only rub on severe undulation in the road, but generally they're absolutely clear. When the tyres need replacing, i'll get some Kumhos (cheers Zak). BUT if anyone can measure their tyre width it would still be appreciated!
mattnorgrove 0 Posted April 26, 2010 You'll need 205/40/17 to keep the rolling radius as close to standard as possible. 195/40/17's will give a smaller rolling radius, and cause your speedo/odometer to read incorrectly.
mimjed 0 Posted April 26, 2010 Again doesnt make sense to me. Profile is the same so makes no difference to speedo.
mattnorgrove 0 Posted April 26, 2010 The profile is a percentage of the tyre width mate, so does make a difference to rolling radius. Compare the two together, the difference is obvious. Have a look here to compare... http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html
