4 wheel alignment

Recommended Posts

when i got the G the tracking was out, had new track rods put on and it was even worse, wasnt bothered though. got some new tyres and going to get them fit before i get the tracking done. rang around a few places but beacuase its so low been told to go to a body shop. i rang one of the biggest body shops in my area, HB Panelcraft - who are a porsche specialist repair shop, but they told me because its on coilovers and lowered there machine will only calibrate it to the manufacturies spec ie standard ride height. i thought this was a load of shite and wouldnt make a difference and they were tellin me porkie pies!

does this sound right to you lot or would it being lowered make that much difference?

I had to take mine to a bodyshop to have it done as my local garages didnt have the equipment to fit a lowered car. I think its the way that they attatch their equipment to the wheel, some hang over the top of the tyre and some attatch to the side of the wheel but the lasers still need to talk to each other.

When I had my 4 wheel done they could only do so much, because it had been lowered on coilovers the camber and caster etc would have been compeltely to pot and aparently nothing they can do.

Cost me £60 in total.

so they still werent right once you had it done?

ive been to national tyres three times now and its still not right! first time, its was better then it was before it was done. then bit better and a bit better again. it does seem to have a bit of torque steer but it still pulling to left. you get a 1 month warrenty with it so gonna get it re-booked in for sat again but i feel like im bothering them even though its not right

How low is the car exactly? I was told that as long as there's room to get the straps over the wheels to fit the equipment to the wheels, it will be fine.

not sure in mm how low it is but they have had the gauges on. but do they not go off measurments from a book or just go off what i says on the gauges and just get them to match and if it does match is that the best im gonna get as far as there concerned?

phoned them today and re-booked for sat so might just get them to stick it loads to the right see what happens?

if you know someone "in the know" then yeah see what they think, im kinda thinkin its gonna be a trail and error type of thing.

the other thing i was thinkin is that some thing else is bent or even the car itself might need jiggin. but thats a bit extreme i think

I can ask if you like. Though i cant imagine them going on book figures cos when your car is lowered the figures must go out of the window???

I find that odd. I've never been ask for specifications when getting the geometry set up. If its pulling to one side then something is out, regardless of any specifications. Getting the equipment on the car would show immediately whats not aligned correctly.

Simong - I havent managed to speak to the bloke i said i would yet, as he wasnt in today and he doesnt work saturdays, so i'll give him a bell next week.. if its not too late by then :D
