handbrake cable replacement fitting guide?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know where i can find some info about swapping handbrake cables on a 91 g60?

my mate is doing mine tomorrow and apparently had some difficulties and the gear shifter end last time he changed some?

If any one knows an easy option/solution it would be appreciated!

I have tried the search but couldnt come up with anything!

Cheers

Baz

It's easy mate, just remove the centre console, the panel underneath it, undo the 10mm lock nuts and adjusting nuts on the cables and pull them through from underneath the car.

Sometimes the cables get a bit tight where they go into the car due to dirt/corrosion, but a bit of brute force should get them out.

Very simple job to do, but probably a bit awquard if your doing it on the floor - purely because you need to get under it. So make sure its well supported!

1) Remove the trim around the handbrake lever

2) Undo the lock nuts at the handbrake lever end

3) Push them through a bit from the lever end, if you can

4) Get underneath and unhook them from the callipers (should be very easy to do with them taken off the lever allready)

5) Work your way back towards the lever and get the cable out of the clips that always snap

6) Pull the cables out and onto the floor.

7) You will probably need to transfer the gold sleeves from your old cables onto your new ones

8) Re-fit as reverse to removal

9) Adjust as required

10) - You still wont be able to do handbrake turns ;)
