V33DUB 0 Posted July 2, 2010 Hi guys, Switch has broken... front bit has snapped off... the bulbs in the switch still come on. Headlights are currently off. About to order a new one from VW but in the meantime is there any danger of it shorting (more than usual... gonna do the fuse mod when the new switch comes)? Luckily I only NEED the car in daylight hours but just need to know if I should disconnect anything while awaiting the new switch? Cheers Jon
VR6 0 Posted July 2, 2010 May as well just take the switch out if you don't actually need the headlights.

Cheers Jon Would strongly suggest taking out the old switch and just leave the loom plug ready for your new switch (get a MK2 Golf switch rather than the late Corrado one, they have the same connections and are much better quality switches, ..cheaper too :) ) as if it does short, you'll melt all the wiring in the loom going back to the fuse box and possibly start a fire. Mine went wrong when I was driving with sidelights on, decided I needed full headlights, pressed the switch, snapping sound and then a car full of smoke, which was a little scary. Anyway, easier to spend 1 min disconnecting the old switch than an hour or 2 repairing the loom and wrestling with the fuse box :)
