2.0l 16v poor running

1994 2.0l 16v.

This problem is really frustrating! intermittently it runs like a dog, I think its fuel related since i have recently changed all the ignition parts.

some days i'll start it and runs fine (usually in the morning) then other days, or in the afternoon it runs like a pig. these are the symptoms:

• slow idle 200 rpm approx

• throttle open no response, it dies unless you really gentle feather it up to speed

• eventually it warms up and runs OK but still does not feel responsive

• when driving you open up the throttle and it hesitates to pick up, response is dead jerky

• going down a really steep hill, afterwards it seems better

any thoughts??????????? :cuckoo:

have you had faults read?

what's the emissions?

what are the plugs like?

any vacuum leaks from inlet boots or vacuum lines

favourite on these engines are dodgy pattern lambda sensors

Clogged ISV? Had similar symptoms on mine, you can try cleaning it through with some carb cleaner spray. If not then a replacement can be had for around £50.

Thanks fot advice.

checked the plugs little bit blacker than i would expect. guess thats a sign of it running rich. next thing i was gonna check is the mixture my mate has a lambda sensor with digital read out, as for the sensor on the car i have no idea if that has been replaced. Is it a bitch to get to?

I'll check the hoses this weekend cheers!
