philvr6 0 Posted November 26, 2010 Driving to work this morning and my 95 VR6 cut out suddenly. :( Tried to start it but with no luck. ended up being towed back home Lots of battery power but fails to start. Decided to Removed the two fuel pipes from the injector rail , turned the engine over but no fuel came out of any of them. :confused4: Could this mean a failed fuel pump,a blocked filter,a blown fuse, a faulty relay,????? Looking for any suggestions here???? also need to know where the fuel pump is exactly.....Is it in the boot.above the fuel tank????.unlike the Golf GTI which is underneath the car...Also does it have a lift pump inside the fuel tank ???? :help:
hombre_paulo 0 Posted November 26, 2010 I would try a new fuel pump relay first, quite common and the cheapest to replace.
Supercharged 2 Posted November 26, 2010 VR fuel pump just seem to die like this but as above, try new ECU, Fuel pump relays and an ignition switch if not been changed recently

hyland770 0 Posted November 26, 2010 you sure its got petrol in it?
mattnorgrove 0 Posted November 26, 2010 If it does turn out to be the fuel pump, and it sounds like it, then for your sake i hope its not got a lot of fuel in it, horrid job changing the pump out if theres much fuel in the tank, as I found out... :( Definitely a good idea to try the relay first though. Good luck! P.S. skinned knuckles and petrol f*****k stings!
philvr6 0 Posted November 28, 2010 Job done  It was the fuel pump after all Did all the relevant checks.... fuse ok,relay ok, voltage to pump ok. The final test was putting 12v direct from the battery to the pump connector in the boot and it was lifeless. The tricky bit was twisting the pump anti-clockwise to release it from the bayonet fitting in the tank. I didn't want to put too much pressure on it incase I damaged the sender unit , but it needed quite a bit of torsion to get it released and as it happened the fuel level was low anyway. Simple installaton and she fired up a treat Check fuse 18 Check relay J17 position 12 or bottom row far right :salute: thanks for the help and comments
