Coilover movement

When the car is jacked up there`s movement at the top part of the suspension.. should there be..?

If you mean the whole strut is able to move up and down a bit, yes thats normal. Weird but normal on these cars.

Aye. The weight of the car (a lot in the Corrado's case!) keeps it all in place. The top cap just stops the strut from falling through the hole when jacked up :D

 

Only the MK1 has bolt in top mounts IIRC.

 

What you shouldn't have with coilovers, or any suspension, is:-

 

1) Loose springs

2) Play in the top mount bearing

Correct.... they go coilbound (fully compressed) as soon as the car's weight is dropped down on them.

 

I remember the low riders back in the day binning the helpers to get the cars extra low.

"the low riders back in the day" i cant tell you how much that made me laugh...images of 90's america, gold teeth and afros haha

 

that "ferrado" in pvw last month had no helper springs to get it even lower
