Thaimark99 0 Posted January 13, 2011 Firstly thanks to everyone who helped me with my last post. I now have a good engine being fitted as we speak. Now I was wondering how much it costs to remap my vr6 and how much power it will gain? Also does anyone know of other cheap ways to gain lots of power? Jim 2 Posted January 13, 2011 You won't gain tonnes of power however a remap does really improve how the VR6 drives, especially in the midrange. Makes it more torquey and feel more powerful from lower revs. Speak to some reputable VW specialists for advice on a remap - Stealth Racing or DG Autotech are two that spring to mind. Don't, whatever you do, buy a chip off eBay for £15!
robrado974 1 Posted January 13, 2011 also consider a superchip , i believe its the same sort of thing , i have one fitted by previous owner ,people who have driven mine say its very responsive .
hombre_paulo 0 Posted January 13, 2011 Are superchips able to tweak their chips/maps to account for breathing mods? BMC/Ported tb/exhaust?
robrado974 1 Posted January 13, 2011 sorry bud i have no idea
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 13, 2011 No Superchips will give you a generic map. If you want a custom map, it'll cost you! :D
hombre_paulo 0 Posted January 13, 2011 I suppose unless you have the generic one should be near enough to cope with light breathing mods
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 13, 2011 Most maps just tickle the ignition advance up a bit and make it a little richer in the open loop maps (full throttle), so yeah, a generic code from a reputable place will usually cater for most mild mods. The lambda sensor will take care of the fuelling at idle and part throttle automatically, so not much needs to be done in those maps.
fla 9 Posted January 13, 2011 i've got a 'Powerchip' in mine - it is deffo more lively than normal, but as mentioned, no power increase, just more evenly spread. Might be getting rid as i have remapped ecu to plug in with my new cams :norty:
