Another how much does a re spray cost

I've not really got on well with any 'rust-eaters', but although I've got some of the screwfix equivalent of Kurust at the moment I think something like the Jenolite gel and then cleaning down and using an acid etch primer would be better, problem with Kurust stuff is it acts as a sort of primer layer and in my experience doesn't bond to clean metal well, more suited to old iron railings :lol:

 

Kev, with the small jars that come with airbrushes you could easily spray a rattle can into the jar, you'll still need a bit of cellulose thinner to make it thin enough for an airbrush nozzle I think, a little paint goes a long way from the airbrush as it's so fine and controlled, 2-20mm spray pattern IIRC.

It had full respray from blue to gold pearl and job was drive in, drive out. Car was fully striped by them and assembled by them. It wasn't vw jobe, one of local respray garage.

 

Best thong is, this job cost me 400 pounds including 150 pounds for paint

Most places will charge upto 150 per panel assuming there no major work to do.. 80% of bodyshops dont want to get involved in older cars having to match paint and sort out rust ect

 

Painting a car can be a very long and costly job and normally things will break along the way and add to the cost..

 

I`ve thought about a thread regarding cost of work to help people not get ripped off.

 

Any how here`s the cost of the work ive had done

 

To paint front bumper/ slam panel/ grill/ mirrors and the slam panel was in bare metal cost £250

 

To take dents out of the bonnet and paint/ both wings/ both doors/ rear glass removed/ rear arches folded and pulled / rear quarters painted inculding A- pillar through to the c pillar/ paint the lower rear valance. Dents removed from roof as well. The car was completely stripped down so no masking lines and everything prep`d and flatted several times before the final paint was applied cost £750

I haven't tried it myself yet, but I have heard/read/seen amazing things about Bilt Hamber (specifically the Deox products). I will be trying it out later this year so I will let you know how I get on. I tried Kurust before now and it was rubbish (I might have been doing it wrong :? ).

Got a couple of these to try out from Wurth when the need arises :) Spray can holders

The spray gun holders do make it easier and a little bit better to spray out of can, but i hate sprayin big areas with a can, u can get a decent finish if u can mop it afterwards but i hate havin no control over the paint and having to make about 6 passes to cover an area that requires one pass with a spray gun due to the pissy small fan pattern of a can.

 

As for resparys being expensive in the uk, everythings fuckin expensive here! :censored: but you can go and get a car repsrayed for under a grand and to many people the job will be a good job, and they'll be happy with it, but some people want a a pukka job doin and to do a pukka job takes a LOT longer, uses more materials and a good quality paint can cost a fair bit, especially if u start gettin into non standard i.e flip/pearl paints etc.It all depends what u want, and for what purpose u you use the car, i'll be repsrayin mine soon but its still my daily at the moment so i aint gonna be taking windows out n forkin out for top of the range paints for one it aint worth it on a daily and 2 when it becomes my second car its gonna be down to a bare shell so will get the pukka paint job then :nuts:

First and foremost thanks for all the replies a lot to think about think my ceiling will b 4k its my pride and joy not my day car and I want it to have an oem+ show look. Secondly I am a tutor at a college and have been offered a re spray at low low cost using the students as the work force very dubious about this could end up a sham......

Thirdly window scrapes obsolete what on earth mine are pants I wanted new ones are there a.y specialist shops for rubbers and font say boots lol but on a serious note our cars are 15 yrs old there are 30yr old classics in emaculate condition where do they get there rubbers from?.......

I'm looking to get rid of a fair bit of rust (predominantly down one side), take a couple of dings out and then have my VR6 resprayed (probably a full respray). It is my second car and only used when I want to treat myself!

 

Given all the comments on this forum my gut feeling says I want a 'restorer' rather than a bulk standard body shop.

 

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good shop in or around Oxford to provide some advice and do this?

I was always shocked how much you are charged for respray in UK and usually I could do this job better with spray can :) I'm serious about it. Already had few parts resprayed by spray can, like wings or rear bumper and I will be doing it once again to my current rado to show you that I'm not joking.

 

Just to give you some idea about respray costs in Poland. VW takes about 6k polish zlotych for full respray in professional spray room what gives you around 1,5k pounds and trust me car looks like new, you can compare this job to brand new mk6 in their show room and you will not find any difference. That include paint and all necessary things.

Bloody hell! - I have just got my Blue Storm back on the road after 9 months, and am loving driving it every day. Was thinking of having a full respray as their is a dink in the passenger door and a scuff on the passenger wheel arch, although to be honest there seems to be minor scratches and scrapes on every panel!

 

Wanted to get it done, but there's no chance in hell I would spend 3k on a respray of a car thats probably only worth around £2,200!

 

Although the prices you are talking about in Poland are getting me thinking maybe drive to Poland for a few days might be worth it!....especially if going via the german Autobahn to really open her up (legally)!! :)

This is the problem. My car basically needs a complete respray... and so far I know it'll be £3,000-£3,500 to get it done right. I want to do it but such a lot of money and I'll still have a car barely worth £3,500 after getting it done :|

Mine goes in 1st October for a windows out respray , I've supplied one brand new wing and every trim, stripping the interior out myself and it's costing me just under 3 grand !!

But as I aim to keep it,it's worth it to me

I'm doing the strip and prep myself to later hand it off to a local garage for a full respray. Given the hours I've put in, I fully appreciate why a respray costs what it does. It's masses and masses of work. I'm not afraid of tackling big jobs but I'm seriously never doing this again.
