James. 9 Posted April 16, 2011 What started out as a major job has descended into farce. I'm mid way through replacing the tensioners and guides. I started to remove the bolts from the flywheel and in my haste forgot to secure the cams. Safe to say the cams started to rotate. In a moment of blind panic I turned the flywheel back anti-clockwise. The cams now don't line up. Damn. How do I rectify this awkward situation ? aide 0 Posted April 16, 2011 can't you just time them up again once you have the guides etc sorted?
James. 9 Posted April 16, 2011 My main concern is that the two cams don't line up with each other and that one may have jumped teeth.
aide 0 Posted April 16, 2011 ok, either get the L shape timing tool, or use two bits of 3mm metal to lock the cams with the groove level with the cylinder head. I foget which lobe is supposed to point directly upwards, do you have a bentley? not\looking forward to doing my guides etc :/ hope it goes smoothly, have you read the bit about cranking over to pressurise the oil before you start up first time again? James. 9 Posted April 16, 2011 I've got the Bentley and plan to read the relevant sections in the sunshine tomorrow. Just been over to VW vortex as well. I'm a little more confident since I started this thread. I got a little panic on before. Sure It'll be fine...
